Gregory D.V. Holmes earned his Bachelor of Music degree in theory and composition from the University of Miami (Class of 1980) where he was the first African American to do so. Immediately after graduating, Mr. Holmes worked full time as a staff composer and engineer for Maryland Public Television, where he wrote the opening theme for the Peabody Award winning television series “Terra: Our World.” He attended law school at night, and diverted into being a New York City trial lawyer for 27 years before retiring and returning to composing. In-between trials he ran a very successful photography business specializing in musical theatre, and was the official photographer for the New Jersey All-State, Southern and Central regions choral and instrumental groups.
