In 1906, Ralph Vaughan Williams, editor of the English Hymnal, asked his friend and colleague, Gustav Holst, to write these hymns. This work combines the melodies in a richly-colored concert setting of fanfare, canon, chorale and processional. A noble Holst tribute!
