Lane M. Powell
Lane M. Powell is in his fourteenth year of teaching and is currently the Director of Bands for the Fillmore Central School District in Southeastern Minnesota. Prior to this position, he served as Director of Bands for Crestwood High School, Cresco, Ia., and as Unit Director of Bands for the Cambridge, Ill., School District. A 1994 magna cum laude graduate from the University of Iowa, Mr. Powell has a bachelor’s degree in music education and trumpet performance. Bands under his direction have earned consecutive top honors at state, regional, and national festivals in the areas of jazz, marching, and concert band. A frequent adjudicator, clinician, writer, and guest conductor, Mr. Powell has been a member of the Tri-State Judging Association since 1999. His professional affiliations include Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Iota Kappa Lambda, MENC, MMEA, and MEA. He has been included in Who’s Who Among American Teachers, earned the NEIBA Phil Sehmann Excellence in Teaching Award, and State of Iowa Governor’s Teacher Recognition Award. He currently resides in Harmony, MN with his wife Jessica, and son Nicholas.
